Do dentists do payment plans
How paying monthly for treatment actually works
Most people meet treatment finance for the first time in a dentist’s chair or a consultation room, with a price they weren’t expecting. This guide explains the whole thing plainly: who provides the finance, what it costs, what the checks involve, and what happens after you say yes.

The short version
Your clinic or dentist quotes a price for your treatment. Instead of paying it all at once, you apply for a payment plan through the clinic; with Chrysalis the application takes under 60 seconds and starts with a soft search that doesn’t touch your credit score. If you’re accepted, the clinic is paid directly and your treatment goes ahead. You repay in fixed monthly instalments over a term of 3 months to 5 years.
The lender is Chrysalis, not your dentist: clinics offer the plans under Chrysalis’ FCA licence, which is what makes the agreement regulated credit with all the protections that carries.
Finance options and what they cost
Clinics choose which plans they offer from the Chrysalis range. Interest free plans mean the total you repay equals the price of your treatment, nothing more. Interest bearing plans over longer terms lower the monthly payment in exchange for a higher total. Terms run from 3 months to 5 years, and your clinic shows you the exact figures for your quote before you commit.

Frequently asked questions
Who am I actually borrowing from, my clinic or Chrysalis?
Chrysalis. Your clinic presents the plan and handles the paperwork with you, but the credit agreement is between you and the lender, under the Chrysalis FCA licence. That is what makes it regulated credit, with the protections that carries, rather than an informal arrangement with the practice.
How do I apply, and how long does it take?
You apply through the clinic or dentist treating you, usually while you are still with them. The application takes under 60 seconds and the decision comes back quickly enough to finish the conversation in the room.
Will applying affect my credit score?
No. Every application starts with a soft search, which shows your likelihood of acceptance without leaving a mark that other lenders can see. A full credit check only happens if you decide to go ahead.
How much can I borrow, and over how long?
From £250 to £50,000, over a term of 3 months to 5 years. Which amounts and terms are available to you depends on the plans your clinic offers and on your own circumstances.
Is interest free finance available?
Interest free plans are offered by many providers, though availability varies by clinic, by treatment and by the term you choose. Interest bearing plans over longer terms are also available where a lower monthly payment matters more. Your clinic will tell you which plans they offer, and you will see the exact monthly payment and total before you commit.
When does my clinic get paid?
Directly, once the agreement is signed and treatment is agreed. You never handle the money yourself, and the practice is not waiting on your instalments.
Can I pay the plan off early?
Yes. A regulated credit agreement gives you the right to settle early, and your lender will confirm the settlement figure at the time. On an interest free plan you simply pay the balance that remains.
What happens if my circumstances change and I struggle to pay?
Tell the lender as early as you can rather than missing payments quietly. Regulated lenders have to treat customers in difficulty fairly and will talk through the options with you, which is another reason a written agreement beats an informal arrangement.
What if my treatment plan changes after I have applied?
Speak to your clinic before anything is booked. The agreement is for a specific amount, so a change to the treatment usually means adjusting the plan or applying again for the revised figure.
Can I use treatment finance for treatment abroad?
No. Chrysalis finance is only available for treatment carried out in the UK, by a hospital, clinic or practice we work with. It cannot be used for treatment booked overseas, for a deposit on treatment abroad, or for the flights, accommodation and travel that go with it, whatever the provider or country. If you have already been treated abroad and need corrective or follow-up work here, that UK treatment can be financed in the usual way, against the quote your UK provider gives you.
