At Chrysalis Finance, we believe in making it as easy as possible for clinics to offer their patients our payment options. That’s why we have a brilliant team of Business Development Managers (BDMs) who support our clinics. Kerry Glynn is one of our Account Managers, whose extensive dental clinic experience has proven invaluable in her new role.
When did you join Chrysalis Finance?
I started about six months ago, at the beginning of 2024. I have been in dentistry for 20 years, both on the clinical side as a qualified dental nurse, and on the support and management side, eventually as a practice manager. When this opportunity came up, I was very excited to make the leap because it means I’m still close to dental and can use all my experience to help others. At the same time, it’s a complete change and I’m learning new things every day.
What does your role as BDM entail?
At the moment, I am still learning the ropes and I look after about 300 smaller accounts, mostly in the dental sector, with a few medical clinics. Many of my accounts are not making the most of their payment options so I spend time finding out what the obstacles are for them and helping them to overcome them, so they are confident offering patients a way to spread their payments.
Do you think your previous experience makes a difference?
Definitely. I am still a registered dental nurse with the GDC, which means I keep updated with the latest changes within the dental sector and I can use my knowledge and experience across dentistry, not just in the area of finance. I understand how things work for my customers, the challenges they face, and their priorities. I can even offer advice about other areas of the business that will help them to make operations run smoothly and I can help them to solve problems when they arise. I think this makes a big difference. Also, I have worked directly with Chrysalis Finance as a customer, so I know exactly what clinics need from us and I can make sure they get it.
What attracted you to the BDM role at Chrysalis Finance?
As I say, I had worked with Chrysalis Finance as a customer when I was a practice manager, so I knew they were a good company. I also knew I needed a new challenge and this was the perfect way to do something completely new but also use my experience. For instance, last week I was at an orthodontics open day for one of my clinics and I could be of help with talking to patients about what their treatment might involve, beyond just the finance side of things. It’s the perfect job for me!
What do you like about working for Chrysalis?
I’m new, and the first thing I noticed is just how much everyone has your back. There’s no question too silly to ask and people go out of their way to help. The level of support, from the basics to the big stuff, is better than anywhere I have ever worked. And of course, that makes it easier for me to support my customers. Also, I feel free to do my job how I think best. For example, if I think I should concentrate on a particular geographic area one week, my boss will say, ‘Great. How can I help you?’ I think it’s that culture that brings out the very best of all of us and it works in the best interests of our customers too.
What does a typical day look like?
Haha, that’s funny. Well, I do like to start the day with a structure but by about 10.00am the day takes over, with me helping clinics either on the phone, via WhatsApp or by email. I also have lots of days in the field, visiting clinics across the country. This can make a real difference as I can see how payment options are (or aren’t) being integrated with everything else and I can help clinics to make it work for them. I also carry out workshops, training and coaching for customers, so no two days are alike. The most important thing is that I speak to customers every day; our role is very visible and hands-on and I really do think that sets us apart.
What do you like doing when you’re not working?
Well, I travel. A lot. My husband loves photography and we have a little caravan which we take all over the UK, from the top of Scotland to the bottom of Cornwall so that he can get the pictures he’s looking for. It’s a great way to plan your holidays and we combine it with a lot of walking, which is another passion.
And finally, what’s the secret to your success?
I believe my role is to help clinics grow their business, because then it’s a win-win. I use my knowledge and experience to help and support them in a rounded way, not ‘pushing’ them to use our payment options but helping them as a business.
