I started suffering from knee problems about 10 years ago after years of playing sport. Then about 7 years ago I had my first surgery on my knee and was advised to wear a leg brace thereafter. They hope by having the brace it would extend the time until I needed replacement knee surgery.
The reality was that my knee was causing me so much pain that I decided to have an X-ray and see what damage had taken place. From the X-ray and pain I knew I couldn’t wait and needed to have surgery on my knee but in Aberdeen where I live there was an enormous waiting list, as well as in the surrounding area.
As I am now 67 and fed up with waiting, my life is totally impacted and I am wearing a leg brace to play golf and just to live day-to-day life. I just couldn’t take the pain anymore and so decided to look into private health care and received a quote of £13,000 for the Orthopedic surgery which I needed. As you can probably tell my jaw hit the ground at this point, I really didn’t want to use my savings, however, the hospital then suggested Chrysalis to pay in monthly installments.
Having the option to spread the cost of my treatment, would allow me to keep my savings for a rainy day, and pay monthly using half my savings and half my pension over a year with 0% interest! If my surgeon Mr Hamilton had never suggested paying monthly with Chrysalis I would never have known and would not have had the treatment. The great thing about paying monthly is this allows me to keep my savings in the bank and feel secure and be able to help family and grandchildren if needed. To me spreading the cost 0% interest was a no-brainer. I would like to enjoy life, and not burning into my savings allows me to have that freedom!
Setting up the loan was easy; I was surprised by how fast the process was and how no paperwork was needed. All the staff were helpful and put me at ease, they explained everything, and the process was simple. Which is what you need when going for quite a big operation. The hospital Circle Albyn Aberdeen was Brilliant! Ironically, I knew the nurse who assisted me on the ward, an old friend, which was nice having a familiar face there, and the nurses and the surgeon all looked after me extremely well.
I am a huge golf player and not being able to finish the course was getting me down, I had a limp and had to wear a leg brace. Not being able to wear shorts in summer and people looking at me did make me feel self-conscious at times. After my recovery in 9 months’ time, I should hopefully be able to finish all 18 holes of golf with no leg brace and not having to worry about what people around me are thinking! I am a big hill walker, so hopefully, I will be able to get back into this too.. I would definitely use Chrysalis Finance again to spread the cost of any medical treatment, and I can’t wait to skip to 9 months’ time and be fully recovered. I’m just thrilled to have my life back, and I am determined to start and live it!
